While there are many dedicated individuals and organizations working towards
solutions to access to justice challenges in Ontario, there is also a recognized and critical need
to increase efficiency, coordination and innovation.
It also proposes long term
solutions for new lawyers, new models of CLE, and that a commission be established
to explore new service delivery options and regulatory reform that would encourage competition, innovation, and
increased access to justice while also protecting the public.
Paralegals Andy Norman and Douglas Bray are proposing a video - based
solution aimed at
increasing access to justice for all via YouTube.
The legal profession should take note, and seriously explore and invest in other innovative and collaborative
solutions that engage law students and technology
to increase access to justice for low - income and self - represented people.
If we're truly serious about
increasing access to justice, the
solution won't come from incremental efforts (laudable as they are) like
increasing mandatory pro bono requirements by a few hours.
