If you require atheists to explain
something physics directly tells you we can't talk
about right now, your burden of proof for
atheism is oddly far more extreme than your burden of proof for «god».
its not really
atheism or religion that I have a problem with, its the hate, control, and fear that goes along with it that I have a problem with, you say that those who are spiritual are into new agey, crystal ball, stuff, see that's what I'm talking
about, you assume to know what
something is
about when you don't understand
something you naturally fear it, your self righteous clouds you, don't you get that by being narrow minded in your view towards things, you really act no better than religious fundamentalists, being spiritual is a lot more than just the new agey, think positive all the time that you think it is, its
about being aware of who you are?
A «group of drunks» that atheists talk
about has nothing to do with the concept of a supernatural being intervening in your life being regarded as
something other than
atheism.
Atheism takes for many
something away that is essential to the fabric of human life and we have to come to some decisions
about what is true, what is lovely and what is just and kind.
On the other hand, people who comment on feeds from advocates for
atheism, like Richard Dawkins or Sam Harris, are going to be commenting
about something they don't like or approve of — religion.
Their cause probably would have been served better with
something like «learn more
about atheism» or «keep church and state separate».
This «list» of evidences of
atheism is trite, simplistic, and actually quite unfactual; but then again, when was the last time that Christians actually sought facts
about something... Peace.
If there was one thing I could get religious people to understand
about Atheism that they currently don't, it's that we aren't offended simply because you happen to believe
something we don't...
It's hard to hate
something you don't believe exists... so, not sure what you don't understand
about the word «
atheism».
Things are now so bad that I tend to keep my
atheism to myself, and instead mumble
something about being a very lapsed Catholic if I'm put on the spot, for fear that uttering the A-word will make people think I'm a Dawkins drone with a mammoth superiority complex and a hives - like allergy to nurses wearing crucifixes.
Context: Last night I was shooting the breeze with my roommates when one of them brought up religion and how it was a «good thing to grow up with religion because it gives children
something to believe in», when I countered that there are many different things children can believe in growing up without having to resort to
something like religion, I basically had to sit there for 10 minutes
about how
atheism ruins lives because it makes everyone apathetic and despondent.
