The political stuff is laid on a little too thick at times via Samuel L. Jackson's radical right - wing television host, and therefore not as effective, but it's worth noting that director Jose Padilha (best known for the «Elite Squad» films) hasn't shied away from making his «RoboCop» actually be about
something other than a man in a cool robotic suit.
We're all familiar with The Bechdel Test, the measure of whether a movie has at least two female characters who talk to each other
about something other than a man.
The film must contain more than one female character; these female characters must have a conversation with one another; and that conversation must be about
something other than a man.
Or just another minor female character to have a conversation about
something other than the men...
It's also one of those rare films that passes the Bechdel test (passed only if a film shows women talking to each other about
something other than men) with flying colors: Binoche is paired with rising starlet Kristen Stewart for the majority of the film, and believe me, their conversations are endlessly fascinating, with little help from men at all.
