Making guys pay to start a conversation is
sort of a tax on
spam.
Bots are essentially
spam accounts run by computer programs instead
of humans, and are designed to run on a
sort of autopilot mode that lets them gather in - game currency — be it experience points, sellable items, or just plain gold.
The reason to do it this way instead
of in some
sort of mail merge or mass - mailing was to hopefully avoid the
spam filters and get a better response rate.
With thousands
of pitches, the media has to
sort through each week, you don't want yours getting lost in a
spam filter because
of an attachment.

spam — a rule Apple is now using if it can't prove that the app was built using some
sort of wizard or drag - and - drop system.
