Mash everything together and add water as needed to get
the soup thickness you like.

I've always been weary of
soup recipes calling for what seems
like too much water, but this one gets all its
thickness and taste from the beans, kale and garlic.
If you
like a thicker
soup then add more corn starch (dissolved in a little water) and continue to cook until the desired
thickness is achieved.
But I
like parts of the mushroom in my
soup so think I'll keep pureeing a cup at a time until I achieve the proper
thickness.
Once everything is soft and to your
liking, make a paste of about three tablespoons arrowroot powder and water and stir the mixture into your
soup to add a touch of
thickness.
