Why do the FUD purveyors feel as if they must
spam comment threads?

I have deleted the
spam that snuck into this
comment thread.
SPAM;
comments that push a link but don't add to the
comment thread 2.
What happened with the romance community
thread is that, as readers
commented on the topic, several authors hijacked the
thread,
spamming it with everything from angry spews to jokes from joke books, anything to derail the
comments.
To keep
spam under control, I need to close the
comments on
threads after 4 weeks (can't figure out if it is possible to open
comments on a single
thread, doesn't seem like it is possible).
Welllll... the bots have spread their ignorance to Eli's little hutch, their
comment spam much like a DOS attack in that the
thread is made tedious.

Way back in April, I put up an «open
thread» post seeking thoughts on best practices to deal with
comment spam and the general notion of anonymity in blog
comments.

comment spam to mean the interruption of a
thread to provide information unrelated to the
thread that's of particular interest to the writer.
