In implementing the resource allocation model, principals should give careful consideration to the formation of a
special education needs team whose members have expertise and interest in
special education so that
provision can be co-ordinated efficiently and flexibly to meet a range of
needs.
Schools should regularly review their ongoing professional development
needs with reference to the
provision of quality teaching and learning in both the mainstream classroom and
special education settings.
The PEP is a record of what
needs to happen for looked after children to enable them to fulfil their potential and reflects any existing
education plans, such as a statement of special educational needs, Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Provision

There are certain specific
provisions in the Acts in relation to
education and some of these deal with people with disabilities or people who have
special needs.
Boards of Management are required to use the State resources provided to the school to make reasonable
provisions and accommodation for students with disabilities or other
special education needs, including, where necessary, alteration of buildings and the
provision of appropriate equipment.
Planning and co-ordinating the
provision of
education and support services to children with
special educational
needs (in conjunction with schools and the Health Service Executive (HSE)

Education projections suggest that a shortfall in
special school places will mean that more complex SEND
provision is
needed in mainstream schools.
