lawyer need not necessarily have
special training or prior experience to handle legal problems
of a
type with which the
lawyer is unfamiliar.
The involvement
of lawyers in these cases (which presumably involve form letters) wouldn't seem to involve the application
of any
type of special legal skill.
It is the
type of document that does not require any
special skills to draft (although,
of course, to draft it well may require
special skills: see below) and, perhaps more importantly given the fact that it will usually be considered and possibly prepared by
lawyers who have little expertise in costs, it is easy to navigate and understand.
The NYSBA's
Special Committee on Balanced Lives in the Law, chaired by Syracuse
lawyer M. Catherine Richardson, spent nearly three years on the report, meeting with
lawyers in all corners
of the state, in all
types of practices,
of all ages, genders and ethnicities.
And the same strategy can be applied to any
type of legal work that
lawyers find hard to make render a profit, which is why the
special parts companies exist.
Just as you would seek a specialized doctor to provide a
special type of medical care, the practice
of medical malpractice law is very specialized and in seeking a
lawyer it is almost always best to seek out a
lawyer or law firm which has significant experience in that area
of law.
Both
lawyers and mental health professionals receive
special training to do this
type of work.
