Because your points are flexible in which
transfer partner you redeem them with you have flexibility and some safety against
specific hotels or
airlines devaluing their points.
Since
transfers are usually only allowed to
specific partner brands, check the issuer's website to ensure your credit card rewards points can be
transferred to your preferred
airline or hotel loyalty program.
Just because a
specific airline is listed as a
transfer partner, it does not mean you actually have to fly that
airline.
Overall, this bonus isn't all that great, so I wouldn't speculatively
transfer your Membership Rewards points to Starwood unless you're looking to top up your Starwood account for a
specific redemption, or if you're trying to
transfer over to an
airline that isn't also a Membership Rewards
transfer partner, such as American
Airlines, US Airways or Alaska
Airlines.
