If you're designing a full print book cover for Createspace,
the spine width needs to be calculated based on the final page count.

They
need to know what resolution, color mode, bleeds, safe area,
spine width, etc., to use when designing your cover.
You'll
need separate cover files, each with the appropriate
spine width — and with differences in paper thickness.
If you are printing a soft bound book, also called perfect bound, we will
need to know the trim size and the
spine width.
If the author is working with a printing company, the printer will
need to supply exact specifications for the book cover,
spine and back cover or provide a template file for Elegant Book Design to utilize for
spine width, bleeds and other specifications.
Any other custom book printing options will also
need to be final in the quote, as they too many affect
spine width and dimensions.
Print books are more complicated, because you
need to calculate the
spine width based on page count, and get the trim right, and it has to be precise or Amazon will reject the files (Createspace is more forgiving if you skip the automatic previewer.
You will
need to have a separate cover file with a
spine and backcover — we will work with the cover designer to ensure that the
spine is the correct
width once the amount of pages in the book has been settled.
Please note your cover designer will
need to know the paper type for the
spine width dimensions since white and cream paper has different thicknesses.
