We finally received a response from The Guardian's Head of Editorial for
sponsored content after the
article had appeared, defending the sponsorship and
article, with the suggestion we write a letter for publication.
Advertisers can also display white papers, thought - leadership
articles, videos or other promotional material on a «
Sponsor Content» position available on ScienceNews.org.

content — this ensures maximum interest from the readership and website visitors.
An inalienable right for publishers to get paid whenever anybody links to their
content, on social media or elsewhere, creates a perverse incentive structure: From the perspective of the social network, spreading fake news in the form of
sponsored posts makes them money, whereas their users sharing legitimate news
articles costs them money.
