A perfect location for
spotting humpback whales in winter.
From playing championship golf courses to hiking or horseback riding through the wonders of Haleakala National Park, with Maui's highest mountain peak, and from visiting the historical whaling town of Lahaina to actually
spotting humpback whales in the ocean, this island has experiences for everyone.
Just after we crossed Johnstone Strait we started
spotting Humpback Whales.
The 1895 Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is one of Australia's best land - based vantage points for
spotting humpback and southern right whales on their annual migration.
Perhaps most exciting is the chance to
spot humpback whales that migrate past Byron Bay from May through to September.
Victoria is one of the top spots for Orca (Killer) whale watching on Vancouver Island but you also have a chance to
spot Humpback, Minke and Gray Whales.
During other times during the year, you might also
spot a humpback or gray whale on your way to the island.

That said, it's the perfect place to go for a little privacy and a long walk, and visitors often
spot humpback whales come winter, and honu (green sea turtles) year - round.

spot humpbacks and other whales.
The shallow lagoons of the Arlington Reef system are a popular location for marine life and your pilot will have you on the look out for large tropical fish, rays, reef sharks, turtles and if travelling in the winter months, you may be lucky enough to
spot a Humpback Whale!
If travelling between July and September, your Pilot may even
spot a Humpback Whale or Dwarf Minke Whale cruising in the ocean.
Watch seagulls and pelicans make splendorous dives during feeding time or
spot a humpback whale jump in the air.
As our tour continued,
we spotted another humpback whale also identified by Jackie Hildering as «Doppelganger.»
In Sydney, you'll typically
spot humpback whales close to shore making their journey toward Queensland.
Between July and October you'll
spot humpback whales swimming by Hervey Bay — sheltered by Fraser Island, the calm and clear waters are perfect for resting their young.

spot Humpback Whales, Finback Whales, Minke Whales and a variety of dolphin.
Afterwards, stroll along the coastal boardwalk up to the Point Danger viewing platform where you can take in the magnificent views along the coast, and

Queensland's whale hot
spot is at Hervey Bay, around 300 kilometres (186 miles) north of Brisbane, where
humpback whales stop to breed and nurse their young.
Sea turtles, dolphins, and huge manta rays are often
spotted near shore, and during the winter months,
humpback and gray whales pass on their migration south from Alaska.
From June to November,
humpback whales can also be
spotted travelling north - west to Broome (a 2 1/2 hour flight from Perth).

Incidentally,
humpback whales visit the southern shores of Maui from November to May, so even during the off - season you can
spot them from the beach.
Spot southern right whales and
humpback whales at Great Oyster Bay as they migrate north along the Tasmanian coast between May and July and south between September and November.
During the dives we had heard the calls of some
Humpback whales, and after we surfaced we
spotted a calf and a mother.
