Neverthelees, a few creatures spotted through the macro lenses were the soft coral crab Hoplophrys oatesii, Zanzibar Whip Coral Shrimp and a other critters, like the Orange -
spotted Pipefish and a couple of different scorpionfishes.
Not exact matches
Amed's House Reef is teeming with life at the moment: we've been
spotting families of ornate ghost
pipefish regularly, and a few days ago, this brightly colored Rhinopias (weedy scorpion fish) made his home here (thanks Nina Banks for the picture).
It has also dropped a bit in temperature, we have averaged at 29 but with all the thermoclines we have been getting 28 and with this we have been
spotting a lot more ornate ghost
pipefish hiding around the feather stars on various dive sites.
They could go on the dive site Jetty and
spot lots of critters such like frogfishes, gurnard lionfishes or ghost
pipefishes.
I found a nice yellow leaf fish sitting in some table coral and while I was photographing it I also
spotted an ornate ghost
pipefish whose camouflage almost worked.
Be sure to
spot seahorses,
pipefish, cuttlefish and even shovel nose rays while you are there.
Commonly
spotted here are ribbon eels,
pipefish, leaf scorpionfish and several juvenile fish species.
This week, our dive guide Andy was proofing his ability to
spot the smallest and most amazing creatures you can find here on the Gili Islands like winged
pipefish, hairy shrimps, ghost
pipefish and some amazing looking nudibranchs.
A few things you may
spot here are seahorses, frogfish, blue - ring and mimic octopus, ghost
pipefish, bobtail squid and all sorts of nudibranches.
Our lucky instructors, Ahmed and Luca,
spotted a ghost
pipefish under the jetty of Dhiggiri house reef!
On Froggy Lair dive
spot you can often see the rare ornate ghost
pipefish.
We saw white -
spotted puffers, lion fish, bearded scorpionfish, octopus, pyjama slug, mantis shrimp, moses sole, lots of
pipefish and a lot more!
That was not all, as (juvenile) Broadclub Cuttlefish, Signal Gobies, Orangutan Crab, Coleman Shrimp and the seldom seen Whiskered
Pipefish were also
spotted.
The forest was not all, though, as among the bommies surrounded by Glassy Sweepers, Wobbegong Sharks, Giant and Painted Frogfish, Ringed
Pipefish, Green Moray were
spotted.
The variety of marine life around Komodo Island ranges from sunfish, mantas, dolphins and eagle rays to the fascinating pygmy seahorses, ornate ghost
pipefish and blue - ringed octopus, making this one of the most diverse and vibrant dive
spots on the planet.
