All I did was spray paint them, first with
a spray paint primer and then the spray paint that coordinated with the rest of the room.

I would second @Peter Bowen that new drywall should get
primer prior to
paint and backrolling will give you a better finish than
spraying alone.

spraying the lamps first with a high heat
spray primer and then the copper
