As a part of the history and language arts curriculum at Screven County Middle School in Sylvania, Ga., the 8th graders there have built their own life - size frontier settlement right on the school's campus — complete with a log cabin, smokehouse, stable,
springhouse, and livestock.
Encourage your students to create a dictionary of words used during colonial times, such as apprentice, shilling, boxwood, colony, town crier, Almanack, flax,
springhouse, tallow, and corncob.
By 1913, West had finalized plans for a log house, barn, and
springhouse.
Note only the gardens of Middleton is praiseworthy but
the springhouse, rice mill, Eliza's house are also significant.

a springhouse, an original log cabin 1796 homestead (pictured above), and a barn on its last legs.
