stagflation did suck, but I wasn't alive then, and even if I was, I would have been re-investing my dividends (hopefully):)

Most
do not use the word «
stagflation» outright (higher rates + slower growth =
stagflation) since there is no consensus around the degree of growth slowing and rates rising.
Rising inflation and weak spending make for a treacherous «
stagflation» combination, but market participants don't believe these readings constitute a trend.

The
stagflation of the mid-1970s benefited agriculture and basic materials, as
did growth in demand from emerging markets in 2009.
Re-invested portfolio income should help anytime there is a market downturn but I think DGI's point is that a portfolio with mostly equities and bonds isn't likely to
do well in times of
stagflation.

do we hit the tipping point, and what nations / sectors will have the worst of it once deflation or
stagflation takes hold?
This
does not mean it's always good during high inflation, but it can be and the same is true during periods of deflation and
stagflation - it probably will
do well, but that's no guarantee.
There are better answers on this site elsewhere about this, but it has sometimes
done well during high inflation, deflation and
stagflation.
I don't like trotting out words like Depression or
Stagflation for their shock value.
Abdual, commodities may lag,
stagflation, but don't move in opposit directions on a macro level.
Stagflation: This is an issue in Japan currently, but I don't see it as much of a risk in RE as I
do in financial markets.
