If reclaimed
wood is too hard to find, they could just as easily distress and
stain some new lumber, like we did for our
mantel:

stain, which compliments the other
wood tones in the home.
Have you thought of drift
wood or that
staining (of rough
wood) for the
wood on your
mantel & upper area?
Unfortunately for me, the
wood had a lot of flaws - too many to simply
stain the
wood - so I decided to patch all of the holes and paint the
mantel with a fresh coat of paint to match the baseboards and trim.
Note: I have applied the gray - wash formula once the
stain dried completely (with my
wood beam
mantel) and I applied it without letting
wood stain dry (for this project).
