We plan to do
some stained wood shelves with over-sized baskets like the photo above for extra storage.
I knew from the getgo that I wanted to utilize simple metal shelving brackets (sold at any home improvement store), paired with
stained wood shelves over the washer and dryer.

If you need furniture, scour charity shops for old stools, benches, drawers and
shelves but bear in mind that dark -
stained wood can soak up light and dominate a photograph, so if your products need something lighter consider stripping back any imposing pieces or painting to a shade that's easier to work with.

wood or laminate

The original plan was to use a natural
stain for a
wood look similar to Bliss at Home's linen closet in my inspiration collage, but the

First I went to Sherwin Williams with a sample (
shelf) from the entertainment center and a piece of yellow pine and they custom made a
stain color for me to match then I used a
wood conditioner (made by Minwax) before applying the
stain which helped with the splotchiness.
