Most missions incorporate a time limit,
so even when your mark retreats, skillfully working your
stamina bar and memorizing where key harvesting ingredients are located doesn't leave you many moments to stop and smell the needleberries.
There's also a sequence which involves Sherlock running away from a hunter, trying to take cover behind trees while managing a
stamina bar which goes on for far, far too long and was
so horribly botched in its execution that I briefly entertained the idea of throwing my computer out the window.
Dodging and casting spells all deplete the
bar,
so you have to keep one wary eye on it at all times and carefully judge what you need to be doing, especially since wearing heavy armor slows down
stamina regeneration.
When you do attack though you have a
stamina bar that depletes very sharply when you are doing anything strenuous,
so swinging an axe is hard, hard, work.
If your
stamina bar is depleted, you will not be able to use your skills but much like your health, you can use items to replenish your
stamina so you can keep up the good fight.
At any time, the player can swap to another member of the party, which may seem pointless initially, but the importance of doing
so becomes clear when the game introduces the
stamina bar and chains.
Once the
bar shrinks to zero you immediately stop to regain your
stamina,
so you have to pace yourself.
What's more, there isn't a
stamina bar that depletes when you sprint either,
so you can run for miles without having to stop for a break.
You can't sprint or dodge attacks with your
stamina depleted,
so make sure you manage your
stamina bar wisely.
