There is a common counter
argument for implementing SEL curriculum at any level and it is that these emerging
standards might just be an educational fad.
This isn't an
argument for apathy or hand - wringing; the teaching profession is already taking hold of evidence,
standards and outcomes
for itself.
The intent of the Common Core
standards is
for students to not just answer questions correctly but also be able to explain their reasoning, craft and defend
arguments, and read complex texts closely.
