of the women) as well as Biblical references (Sheba is short for Bathsheba, the Old Testament woman seduced; Barbara's last name is Covett, and covet she most certainly does).
The Italian actor - turned - director fails to draw anything substantial out
of his
stars Penelope Cruz (who he worked with on his previous
film, Don't Move, another adaptation
of a Mazzantini novel) and Emile Hirsch,
though the unbelievably phony dialog would stumble up even the best

of its smallest unit, the dyad.
But even
though the
film is Marvel's crowning aesthetic triumph, even
though all four
of its
stars — Swinton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams — have their game faces on and act their hearts out, even
though it's got great humor and spirit, Doctor Strange isn't close to being Marvel's best movie.
Not only is it a dingy psychological thriller revolving around themes
of insanity and sexual abuse, even
though Foy has seen her fame increase since her breakout turn in Netflix's «The Crown» it's safe to say this
film still lacks the
star power
of Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Daniel Craig, Seth MacFarlane, Hilary Swank, Riley Keough and Katie Holmes that Logan Lucky brought to the table.
Even
though every other aspect
of the
film was lackluster, the all -
star cast had every potential to shine.
The
film is fairly paint - by - numbers and mostly predictable, but a standout performance from Shannon as the drunk, gambling - addicted father
of a high school basketball
star and an impressive turn from the always - welcome, always - gorgeous Carla Gugino will help position Wolves for a decently widespread theatrical release,
though it probably won't have much staying power.
It was made by PDI / DreamWorks and
though none
of the top credited creative people are those from behind the
films, there's no indication that this is some sloppy stepchild like the fabled
Star Wars Holiday Special.
How crazy is it to make a biographical
film of someone and then go ahead and invent sections
of it.The demonic Wilson doctor and the youthful Wilson are great in their parts, but Cusack is not quite so convincing nor is his girlfriend who is ridiculously beautiful and sentimental.However the
film has many good points and is an interesting viewing.l am not a fan
of Beach Boys silly group harmonies, style
of music, but still enjoyed the
film.Mixing fact with fiction,
though, did make me suspicious
of the whole thing.3

of these erotic fantasies depend on the
stars being attractive to both sexes —

of Tramell in Basic Instinct is downplayed in the sequel, most likely a response to lesbian protests against the earlier

though Oscar Isaac «s wonderfully soulful,
star - making turn has to take a good portion
of the credit, with the supporting cast
of Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan, Adam Driver and Coens regular John Goodman also contributing to the rich tapestry
of the
film.
Verdict: A new
film from Tsai Ming - Liang was always going to be an event for the artsier kind
of cinephile and «Stray Dogs» (which the Taiwanese director
of «Goodbye Dragon Inn» claimed was his last
film,
though he seems to have another, «Journey To The West,»
starring Denis Lavant, premiering in Berlin in February) did not disappoint.
Though it didn't do much to assert his
star power, Our Idiot Brother does reinforce the talents
of Paul Rudd and with more dramatic credibility than many
of his recent mainstream
films.
One
film to watch in the Directors» Fortnight section might be the Ben Whishaw -
starring «Lilting,» while Hossein Amini «s «The Two Faces
Of January» could figure somewhere in the line - up as well,
though TIFF is more likely.
That left «Gatsby» to settle for the runner - up position,
though the
film starring Leonardo DiCaprio surpassed industry expectations with a healthy debut
of $ 51.1 million.

Though it won't premiere until Dec. 18, the buzz around this overdue «
Star Wars» installment is almost worthy
of its own
film: The latest trailer was viewed over 88 million times in its first 24 hours.
As it stands, closing
film «Damsels in Distress» — despite the significant intrigue factor
of being American maverick Whit Stillman's first
film in 13 years, and
starring rising indie princess Greta Gerwig — is unlikely to prove sufficient to lure them,
though it's a tasty reward for the rest
of us.
Though Ryan Reynolds declined to comment on his co-star in a a recent profile piece with the New York Times, he did confirm that the actor would not be part
of the next
film starring the Merc with a Mouth.
Whilst a winter sports» flavoured romcom
starring one
of the
stars of Gossip Girl sounds like the cinematic scrapping
of the bottom
of the barrel, and even
though the god - awful poster seems to be trying to sell this
film as the cheesiest
of all time (and don't get me started on the completely unrelated tag - line), it is honestly not as bad as the synopsis and key art is making it out to be.

Though it is the most feature - packed non-Collector's Edition DVD
of a
Star Trek
film yet, one can't say the effort was entirely worth it when it comes to
Star Trek: Nemesis.
But
though it could be viewed as a series
of short, fun,
film pitches - Channing Tatum's happy sailor tap - dancing routine was a favourite - wrapped up in the larger narrative
of a movie
star being kidnapped, its so beautifully put together, well - performed, tightly - scripted and deliberating making fun
of itself that it works.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundmix is more undistinguished than that
of Star Trek: Insurrection for belonging to a somehow talkier
film,
though any time the Enterprise is on a gimbal there is a vigorous amount
of bass and some fury that trickles into the rear channels.
The new
film has already brought in some awards hardware, having taken directing and screenwriting honors at Sundance in January,
though the work
of stars Liam Neeson, James Nesbitt and Anamaria Marinca (
of «4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days» fame) are no less commendable.
