As I went deeper in the science of nutrition I began to understand the critical nature of fruits and
starchy vegetables in my diet.
Not exact matches
While beets are a pretty
starchy, high carbohydrate
vegetable for anyone on an LCHF (Low Carbohydrate High Fat)
diet or similar — fermented beets are much lower
in carbohydrates so totally acceptable.
Men and women following
diets based on grains, legumes, and
starchy vegetables have accomplished most of the great feats
in history.
In addition,
Starchy vegetables like white and sweet potatoes, tapioca, cassava, parsnip, arrowroot and taro must be eliminated from the
diet for a time.

I would recommend that as a base, that is a
diet consisting only of whole grains, fruits,
vegetables,
starchy vegetables and legumes,
in amounts similar to Dr Greger's daily dozen.
I did not think I changed anything
in my
diet even though I was eating more
starchy roasted
vegetables so maybe I missed calories there!
Reversing diabetes does not take very long with a whole food
diet rich
in vegetables in particular green leafy ones, low
in carbohydrate (grains and
starchy foods
in particular white processed) and high
in good fats (flax oil, coconut oil, seeds and nuts).
Just do the
diet strictly from two to four weeks, then slowly include more fresh fruits,

Really, we want to keep added sugars
in the

starchy vegetables, and grains (yes, these foods contain natural sugars since they contain carbs and all carbs are converted to glucose!).
On the other hand, there are also many anti-candida
diets (the one
in my book, Living Candida - Free, included) that allow sweet potatoes as well as other
starchy vegetables.
