So, too, do astrophysical exotica such as neutron
stars and white dwarfs — the remnants left
by normal
stars when they
die.

star had long since gone cold and
died — but Laughlin was intrigued
by the concept of using physical simulations to traverse enormous gulfs of time.
These bursts, which have been detected in large numbers
by NASA's Swift telescope, are fleeting explosions thought to be caused when massive
stars die or when neutron
stars merge.
By all rights,
stars should be stable, sober creatures, preferring to
die with a whimper than with a bang.

The elements are synthesised
by the nuclear combustion process in
stars and driven out into space when the
star dies and explodes.
The astronomical candidates range from far - flung galaxies to
dying stars, and have not been previously photographed
by Hubble.
Earlier images of this complex object — the gaseous envelope ejected
