Triumph T100 motorcycle,
starter solenoid clicks a lot and doesn't turn motor enough, it would start after pressing starter button for a length of time but solenoid would then break.

starter it turning, but isn't engaged - most likely the
solenoid has failed
As discussed in the comments already, the
clicking you hear is probably the
starter solenoid.
What happens (causing the flashing /
clicking) is that when you turn the key, the
starter relay /
solenoid switches on, and the
starter motor pulls all the available current, dropping the battery voltage extremely low.
I put a new
solenoid on, it worked good at first then started
clicking a lot, then stuck open so when I got home and turned ignition off it wouldn't stop turning engine over, so
solenoid and
starter were still live.
If no
clicks heard from under the bonnet, it could be easily
starter solenoid is stuck.
Sometimes things get sticky from corrosion or dirt inside the
Starter /
Solenoid and you'll hear a
click or two when you try to crank.
