The
state has long been viewed as a
leader in
education reform across the nation, sitting atop National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP) test scores in Reading and Math for a number of years.
Pope Francis's trip to the United
States in September will include a visit to a New York City school whose
leaders are among those trying to save Catholic
education with charter school innovations and other
education reforms.
It also provided a forum to meet with
state and district
reform leaders, including David Driscoll, Massachusetts Commissioner of
Education, and Thomas Payzant, Superintendent of BPS.
Since 2008, scores from the TCAP and its predecessor, CSAP, have gone up and down slightly, adding up to not much change in a
state at the forefront of testing and considered a
leader in
education reform.
