Put trimmed and cleaned green beans in the
steamer basket, set it over the boiling water, cover, and
steam until tender to the bite, 3 to 5 minutes (depending, again, on how crisp or tender you
like your green beans).
For the green beans, I
like to keep them still crunchy so I lightly
steam them first using a
steamer basket then running under cold water.
Layer them into a
steamer basket with sturdier veg (
like cauliflower) on the bottom, and more delicate veg (
like zucchini) on the top.
I have a deep pot with a
steamer insert
like this but a collapsable
steamer basket works fine.
I
steamed them with garlic in a double
basket above potatoes and they taste nothing
like stinky cabbage.
