The GFP+HPC s expressed a whole range of leukocyte and
stem cell markers including CD45, CD11b, CD31; relatively low levels of MHC class I; and no class II antigens, as we recently reported [17].

Previous research shows human induced pluripotent
stem cells (hiPSCs)-- generated directly from adult
cells — can express
markers for a wide variety of
cells,
including those that secrete NP.
Perivascular
cells,
including pericytes in the smallest blood vessels (e.g., microvessels) and ARCs around larger ones, express mesenchymal
stem cell markers and bear a multi-differentiation fate potential (differentiate into osteoblasts, chondrocytes, adipocytes, smooth muscle
cells and myocytes) similar to that documented for MSCs in vitro.
Further research uncovered a broad spectrum of
cell surface
stem cell markers (e.g., CD133, CD44, and CD24) that allow the identification of CSCs in human solid tumors,
including brain, breast, prostate, pancreas, liver, ovary, skin, colon cancers, and melanoma (3 - 6)(Figure 1 based on 7).
The ΔN isoforms of p63 may also serve as
stem cell markers in a variety of epithelial
cell types,
including endometrium [30], cervix [31], breast [32], prostate [33], and in stratified squamous epithelium [21,34].
Other flow cytometry applications
include: cellular phenotyping by multiparameter cytofluorimetric analysis, sorting of fluorescence protein - tagged
cells, assessing apoptosis and
cell cycle status, the identification / isolation of
stem and cancer
stem cells (e.g.,
marker positive, side - population, etc.) and the deposition of single
cells.
His current research interests
include developing morphologic and biologic
markers of embryo viability in order to enable single embryo transfer and avoid multiple pregnancies; optimizing preimplantation genetic testing; and deriving human embryonic
stem cell lines.
