I'm still not a fan of that little c -
stick nub thingy on New 3DS systems but it felt more responsive here than it did in some other games I played that used it.
This is looking more and more like the C -
stick nub on the New 3DS will be compatible with this game, and used for camera movement.
But that new C -
stick nub is very strange, especially considering the circle pad on the left is pretty darn perfect.
Not exact matches

Sticks have ergonomic handles so it is easy for babies to hold and textured

It turns out the single
stick approach is the perfect tool for playing first - person games on a handheld, supplemented here with a little Splatoon - style gyro control that allows you to fine tune your aim (a more traditional dual
stick first - person shooter style system is available for those with a New 3DS, though the smaller
nub doesn't seem up to the task it's been handed).
The tiny rubber
nub looks and feels like the pointing
stick you'll find in many business laptops, but it's surprisingly responsive and does an admirable job handling functions that are typically performed with a right analog
stick on console controllers.
Normally that restricts movement controls to the left analog
stick (or
nub) and forces players to aim awkwardly with the face buttons.
The analog
stick (finally I can say analog
stick not
nub) makes the control flow somewhat naturally.
Unlike the PSP, which had a single analog
nub, the Vita's dual
sticks screamed for a developer to make a FPS to demonstrate that the genre could finally be enjoyed on the go.
The New Nintendo 3DS has the larger screen, and a second analog
stick (technically an analog
nub, but we'll take it), and additional shoulder buttons.
But as a clear step up from the Vita
nubs in this department, the joy - con control
sticks take the crown as the best commercially available portable ones yet by default.
The addition of a second analogue
stick - and they are proper
sticks now instead of
nubs - is an important leap forwards from the original PSP and from our hand - on experience it's a challenge the device and developers are already relishing.
Notable changes are the new analog
sticks, previously analog
nubs, which have been moved diagonally from the D - pad and directional buttons.
The biggest change is the addition of a second analog
stick on the right hand side of the console: a small
nub absent on earlier devices unless you owned the CirclePad Pro peripheral.
After cutting, you'll
stick the little semi-circle
nub in front and the rest of the fold behind.
Hell, you can even swap out those analog
sticks tops for rubbery convex
nubs, like the older PlayStation controllers used to use.
Even games that don't require two analog
sticks benefit from the Moga controller's responsive analog
nubs.
Both Majora's Mask 3D and MH4U will enjoy slight enhancements on the New 3DS XL and take advantage of the C -
Stick «
nub» for enhanced camera controls.
Speaking of the unit's face, you'll find a d - pad, circle pad and home button on the left side, while four game input buttons, Start and Select buttons and a
nub - like C -
stick can be found on the right.
The
nub works fine for those tasks, but I can't help but wish Nintendo had put a real analog
stick or circle pad there to allow developers more gameplay flexibility.
The new analog
nub is considered by Nintendo to be similar to the C -
Stick on the Gamecube controller.
Though not everyone loves pointing
sticks, I find that Lenovo's little red
nub provides the most accurate and convenient form of navigation.
