Below we're going to break down what a 16 hour fast might look like in a day and how you can
still eat enough calories based on a 2,000 calorie a day consumption baseline.

If you are
eating enough fat and
calories, as Matty rightly points out below, and are including occasional liver (some people do better when they
eat a variety of animal products) and are
still tired, there are three possibilities that come to the top of my head:
I'm ripped and love lifting heavy, but I
still can not
eat enough at 1500
calories.

eats 2000
calories, but they ADD nuts to the diet, they may
still only
eat 2000

Adhering to a diet of low carbohydrate meals, you can
eat enough to feel satisfied and
still wind up losing fat - without obsessively counting
calories or fat grams.
There's
still often a large drop of
calorie expenditure that isn't explained by the loss of muscle mass but it tends to be less severe if people lift weights and
eat enough protein.
My problem was (and this is prior to the points plus program) when I got down to 20 lbs from my goal weight I had uncontrollable cravings and because I my points were so low (I found out later I was only
eating about 1200
calories vs my body size was supposed to be closer to 1600
calories) I was never able to
eat enough while
still maintaining the points.
When both groups
eat the same amount of
calories (isocaloric), the low - carb groups
still tend to lose more weight but the effects aren't large
enough to reach statistical significance.
Start at the beginning again and look at what you are
eating, are you keeping to your
calories, are you
eating enough protein, carbs etc do you
still keep a food diary / journal.
As a result of not monitoring things closely
enough, they
still go overboard on total
calories despite
eating mostly «healthy» foods.
But that also means that
eating a WFPB diet it is relatively easy to get
enough calories to maintain weight while
still keeping protein consumption to that required for body maintenance (~ 5 - 10 % of total
calories).
The question for you is can you propose a diet for these humans where they were able to get more than a tiny fraction of their daily
calories from meat, eggs or insects that don't have fiber and
still eat enough plant foods to get 100 grams a day
