The U.S. food supply may
still be the
safest in the
world but it will take some good science, rationally applied, before consumer's will
feel honest when they answer «yes» to a child who asks, «Is it
safe to eat.»
Without a Roger Greenberg to agitate, the hesitant audiences relax, and while there are
still the odd jab or two to decorum, you
feel safe having Frances as your protagonist, she is harmless, «undateable» and a stand
in for a lot of late twentysomethings unsure of their place
in the
world.
