Vesicular
stomatitis (VS) has been detected in three horses
at a Pecos County, Texas, premises located approximately 30 miles north of Fort Stockton, Texas.
He had been
at a shelter for over a year and had a severe case of gingivitis /
stomatitis (inflammation of gums and entire oral cavity) requiring high doses of steroids twice daily to control his pain and allow him to continue to eat.
Stomatitis is characterized by extreme inflammation, ulceration, and pain in the gums adjacent to the teeth, especially
at the premolars, molars, and the corners of the mouth where the upper and lower jaws meet.
