stories about local events to support the community.

On June 27th ~ the U.S Department of Education hosted an
event ~ ED Youth Voices: Students Transforming Communities and Schools ~ featuring
stories about how students are taking
local education issues into their own hands.
To help provide the answers people need, Faces of Learning is asking people to share personal
stories of their most powerful learning experiences; attend and / or organize public
events at which people think together
about how to improve the
local conditions in which people learn; and use a new interactive tool called the Learner Sketch, which invites users to explore their own strengths and challenges among the various mental processes that influence learning.
It's a historical novel set in the medieval period (telling the
story of the real King Richard III), so I'm booking stalls at every appropriate medieval festival; it's a book aimed primarily at children aged 10 and up, so I'm making overtures to
local schools
about author visits and to libraries; I'm attending
events at my first literature festival next week to meet and network with
local authors and hand out some leaflets (maybe even sell a copy or two).

If there has been a current news
event that touches upon your area of writing, for example as an author of environmental issues, if there is a
local story about a new waste plant, then get in touch and see if your views can be heard.

about the
local classical music scene.
Students organise an
event which enables them to creatively communicate human rights values and principles to the
local community — each class could choose a different right and find creative ways of teaching others
about this including through posters, plays and testimonies and
stories from students and others in the
local community.
