I can mostly understand wanting to tell a
story about a sexually repressed woman who still lives with her mother, but director Haneke doesn't seem to care
about why Walter would become such a
monster, nor why Erika would purposefully destroy her top student by dumping broken glass into her coat pocket.

Stories (released on September 8th in Europe and North America) is no exception, and if you've already checked our posts
about the Japanese release, then you already know what to expect.
Similarly, Horizon Zero Dawn may ostensibly be
about taking down robot
monsters, but it manages to create a slow - burn
story of humanity at our best, and at our worst.
You think it's going to be a traditional

story in there
about crystals - you want them, but you're going to have to go through a load of big old
monsters first - but you could quite easily skip over the dialogue boxes without really missing a thing.
There is little to no exposition
about the
monsters or how things got as bad as they did, because the
story is more
about this family and their perseverance in this new world.

about the human experience than CGI — the boy has to tell
stories to keep the
monster happy — and distributor Focus Features surely seems confident in the project, recently moving it to an awards - friendly release date in December.
There's a grown - up
story about a stash of stolen money, but Laughton's masterstroke is to ignore that and present the human
monster from the children's point of view, as a remorseless bogeyman.
We also learn that «entertainment» was often sacrificed for «
story,» God forbid a movie
about monsters going to college be entertaining.
