She'll be 2 next month,
about week before # 3 is born, and while some times she would still like to
nurse before bed we have found a compromise with some milk and a
story with Daddy.
Unfortunately it wasn't the case for me during either of my children's births, and plenty of moms have horror
stories about awful
nurses ruining their birth experiences.

nurse everyone to sleep (and that's nights when we don't have bathtime!)

Even though every U.S. state has laws protecting a woman's right to
nurse anywhere she is legally permitted to be (every state except Idaho so, you know, get your shit together, Idaho), countless women have
stories about being shamed for feeding their baby in public.
And this is very traumatizing to think
about — how close we came to disaster despite my otherwise perfect prognosis, and how, had it not been for the doctors,
nurses, neonatologists and other medical staff at the hospital who worked tirelessly on getting the best outcome for me and my baby using the best technology available to them, the outcome of my
story could have been vastly different.
Many mothers have come up to me and talked
about how they loved
nursing their babies and complete strangers have told me their
stories.
In short: pop culture almost always depicts
nursing a child (older than a very small infant, anyway) as a short - handed way to reveal something
about a character or
story beyond that character simply breastfeeding.
Funny
story, when I was pregnant the first time around I didn't know much
about breastfeeding and I read somewhere that babies
nurse every two hours.
Reading
about the weaning process and seeing the video may not have affected me in the same way if ihadnt been
nursing Penny while hearing these
stories.
Actually, most women choose homebirth because of all the «horror
stories» that they hear
about the hospitals / obs / doctors /
nurses.

So I guess the moral of the
story is, you don't have to wean straight away, you can cut down and lay down the law
about when she's allowed to
nurse and when she isn't, and be consistent
about that rule.
