I was also deeply moved by this
story, and would like everyone to know that there are many, many
families with
stories like these, and not all
of them have
happy endings.
I think I'm too simple in my thinking that; if you don't like it, DO N'T WATCH... if you don't agree with it, DO N'T CHOOSE TO LIVE YOUR LIFE THAT WAY... Seems like a very simplistic way
of thinking, but I have personal opinions on EVERYTHING, but I don't force others to live their lives according to my moral fiber... i don't judge people for living their lives the way that makes them
happy... And i believe that IGNORANCE is the basis for INTOLERANCE... people are famous for HATING things that they don't understand... again, if it MORALLY offends you, don't read
stories on things that you don't agree with, don't watch shows that portray choices that you don't agree with... The Brown
family seems close knit, almost like extended
family living under one roof... the kids work together and get along much better than a lot
of «mainstream» households i see...
And just as
families select artifacts that suggest past happiness in order to soften the blows inflicted by actions
of family members in less
happy times, congregational histories can create illusions: authors might relate in two sentences the experience
of an unhappy pastorate that led to two decades
of misery — and distort the whole
story by dwelling on the beauty
of the old sanctuary, hence suggesting general happiness.

It hints at exactly why
stories matter, what Anderson's aims for but doesn't fully succeed in saying — in terms
of family, these shared histories and
stories,
happy or tragic, are how we stay close and how we remember.
Jude, who was AD on Cristi Puiu's The Death
of Mr. Lazarescu, has previously made two features, both present - day
stories, The
Happiest Girl in the World (09) and Everybody in Our
Family (12),
of which I've only seen the first, a leisurely but caustic drama about a young contest - winner being screwed around with by the media.

World War Z doesn't give the audience the benefit
of the doubt and instead decides they'll be
happy with an empty
story and a character with no real development beyond having a
family he occasionally calls.
The result is a version
of Tolstoy's
story that moves at a breakneck pace with nary a moment diverted to any point or detail that does not have something to do with the central narrative or thematic content (Even the book's famous opening is missing, because, here, the individual trumps
families —
happy or unhappy).
Rooted in the filmmaker's interest in capitalism and colonialism,
Happy End offers an indictment
of Western hypocrisy on refugees through the
story of a self - absorbed industrialist French
family in the immigrant hub
of Calais.
It tells the
story of «a long - married couple who sends their supposedly
happy family into turmoil when the wife asks for a divorce...
Filmed in harsh grays and cruel light, interspersed with warm home movies
of the
family in a
happier time, it's a terribly sad and often mesmerizing
story.
Sometimes those Cannes schedulers have a devilish sense
of humor, to judge by the screening
of «
Happy End» on the same day as a rather more approachable dysfunctional -
family movie, «The Meyerowitz
Stories (New and Selected).»

The title
story, «The Lives
of Rocks», in which a geologist, living in the forest and weakened by cancer treatments, comes to rely on the help and company
of two children from a rigidly fundamentalist
family who are
happy to help until she teaches them that the earth is millions
of years old; and «Fiber» in which a logger muses on his job in the Yaak Valley before turning on the reader with a direct plea to help protect the area - in a few swift words changing the reader from casual observer to participant.
This is an adorable
