After picking up 8 pounds of
strawberries from a local farm, I noticed these were the most perfect strawberries I have ever seen.
The other day my mother - in - law dropped off
some strawberries from a local farm.

So when Asheley and I picked a small arsenal of
strawberries a few weeks back
from the
local organic
farm, I knew immediately what I was going to make.
A couple of weeks ago, I made my first batch of
strawberry jam (
from the organic
strawberries we'd picked at a
local farm) and tried my hand at canning for the first time as well.
Local food was featured on the school menu 22 times, including locally grown sweet potatoes and Turnip Greens
from Herndon
Farms in Lyons,
strawberries from Mathews
Farms in Baxley, and Regenerate blueberry juice
from Alma.
In April and May
local strawberries from Moon
Farms were featured at all schools.
Some of that extraordinary work includes Dougherty County School System training students to harvest, wash, and prep product
from their teaching gardens for taste tests and to serve in the cafeteria, Elbert County School District featuring
local strawberries on the lunch line
from a
farm 20 miles away, and Dade County Schools utilizing experiential nutrition and garden - based education to teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) standards.
Local items were highlighted monthly in the Harvest of the Month program, including produce
from Mountain Earth
Farms in Clarkesville, grits
from White County, and
strawberries grown 20 miles
from the district at Moon
Farms.
We sipped on some fun mocktails that use fruit
from local farms around NC including their seasonal bell pepper blueberry margarita,
local blackberry white wine sangria,
strawberry margarita, and skinny margarita.
