From the moment she was first introduced to Willem de Kooning by her friend Fairfield Porter, she became an integral member of the Chelsea New York

photographer and filmmaker Rudy Burckhardt (whom she married in 1947) and the Jane
Street Group around Nell Blaine.
As far as the
art goes, the show features the Legacy Stone; a limited edition digital c - print taken in Sheep Meadow, Central Park by
art photographer Ventiko (a.k.a. Dexter Dean); and a limited edition grave rubbing print of the actual stone, created in collaboration with master printer James Stroud of Center
Street Studio.

A leading voice of portrait photography, Dawoud Bey got his start as a
street photographer in Harlem in the 1970s, then made sensitive, large - scale Polaroids in the nineties, and last year had a retrospective held concurrently at the
Art Institute of Chicago and the Renaissance Society.
In this show, the 73 - year - old
photographer presents his signature style black - and - white images shot on the
streets of Wilkes - Barre, Penn., in 1974 and 1975, shortly after his notable solo outing at the Museum of Modern
Art.
