strict U.S.
vehicle emissions and fuel
efficiency rules put in place under former President Barack Obama.

efficiency through tax incentives and
stricter standards for appliances,
vehicles, and buildings to meet the goals of the American Clean Energy and Security Act.

efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions including the first EV leases in California (1997 Honda EV Plus), the retail introduction of America's first hybrid (1999 Honda Insight), delivery of the first fuel - cell electric

Proposals floated by Trump at the meeting reportedly included setting
stricter emissions standards for imported cars than American - made autos, as well as subjecting foreign
vehicles to a 20 % tariff and extending the
efficiency standards until 2030, five years later than currently scheduled and a key demand from California.
The most effective policy for reducing CO2 emissions and oil imports from transportation is to spur the development and sale of more efficient
vehicles with
strict efficiency standards while increasing the cost of driving with strong fuel taxes.
