Carmichael and his team began by determining which molecules become more prevalent in the brain
during the recovery
period after a
stroke, and listing all of the genes that are up - or down - regulated, which the researchers had previously identified
during an earlier
study.
During the
study period, 16 % of the
study participants had a heart attack or
stroke, required hospitalization for heart failure, or died of heart disease.
