What I would have given to have a
gate - checked
stroller waiting for us
as we deplaned!
I am hoping to be able to
gate check the
stroller AND car seat
as she will be an infant in arms... We are flying Air Tran one way and Delta the other way.
Many of the bigger double or triple
strollers are hard to get down the jet bridge and put in a bag to be
gate - checked
as you're trying to board with your children.
We have encountered countless problems in getting our
stroller back at the
gate upon landing,
as is often promised ahead of time,
as there will suddenly be «no ground staff available» to bring your stoller to the
gate, which in my opinion is when you most need it, to get sleeping baby / toddler through the airport along with your other belongings and / or children.
Their website actually lists a size limit for
strollers that can be
gate - checked (collapsed diameter not exceeding 25.5 cm / 10 in and a length not exceeding 92 cm / 36 in) and we were panicking a bit before we went to London over New Year's
as our Peg Perego Pliko P3 seemed to be about 1 - 2 inches over each of those limits.
We had no issues
gate checking our
stroller, and we actually
gate checked our daughter's booster seat on the way down
as well.
You'll still need a car seat at your destination, so your best bet is to
gate - check it
as you would
gate check a
stroller, but make sure to protect it from sometimes less - than - gentle baggage handlers.
Note that if you're traveling with a double
stroller (
as most twin families with small children are) you need to check with your airline to ensure there are no restrictions on weight limit,
as a few airlines will not allow you to
gate check a larger
stroller.

strollers, play yards, high chairs, swings,
gates, exersaucers / walkers, and backpack / carriers.

We advise you to insist on getting the
stroller base at the
gate as, unfortunately, damage occurs quite often even with the most trusted airlines when
strollers get checked - in.
