Last week, scientists at Harvard University and Columbia University announced that they had proved the
viability of a new way to
study a disease — amyotrophic lateral sclerosis — by reprogramming
cells from a patient to become pluripotent stem
cells, which can then become any type of
cell or tissue.
The
study found that combining the two drugs had an increased effect of killing of cancer
cells, while individually, the drugs have considerably less impact on
cell viability.
The other
study published in the American Chemical Society's Applied Materials & Interfaces reported a method for fabricating titanium implants with special surface topographies which double the chance of
cell viability in early stages.

cells to doxorubicin alone and measured their
viability following treatment.

studies are (i) to contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms that control cortical development and evolution, (ii) to use the knowledge to grow neural stem
cell populations of high purity and
viability for therapeutic approaches and (iii) to
study how neural stem
cells can be activated in vivo.
