A new
study links
alcohol use disorders to all types of dementia especially early - onset dementia.
But perhaps even more staggering is that, according to different
studies, only 10 percent of people with substance
use disorders receive any type of treatment for their dependency on
alcohol, prescription medications and / or illicit drugs — even if they're patients at a hospital.
«The results change our thinking about how
alcohol responses affect the development of an
alcohol -
use disorder,» said Andrea King, PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience at the University of Chicago and lead author of the

study included 144 teens who had a father with an
alcohol use disorder.
Increases in rates of
alcohol use, high - risk drinking and
