In order to understand the relationship between technology innovation and social studies teacher education, this article presents baseline information on social
studies faculty use of technology in instruction.

studies to be

study from the Consortium of Policy Research in Education (CPRE) of Philadelphia schools after the reform found that schools
using positive rather than punitive disciplinary measures had more

faculty use cutting - edge teaching methods and classroom management techniques in the social
studies classroom and implement inquiry - based and multicultural social
studies curricula, while supporting students in becoming educational leaders who practice social responsibility and work for more caring and just societies.
The focus of this
study was to define the stages that schools, colleges, and departments of education experienced as
faculty and students moved from lower to higher levels of computer technology
use and integration.
Factors considered important to the reform included the following: (a) meeting for 1 hour a week in
study groups; (b) meeting in cross-grade groups; (c) reflecting on teaching in
