For social
studies teacher educators, using technology in the classroom requires an ongoing dialog regarding how knowledge is constructed.
As social

for our preservice

Multiple
studies have demonstrated that organizations that prioritize a performance - management system that supports employees» professional growth outperform organizations that do not.25 Similar to all professionals,
teachers need feedback and opportunities to develop and refine their practices.26 As their expertise increases, excellent
teachers want to take on additional responsibilities and assume leadership roles within their schools.27 Unfortunately, few
educators currently receive these kinds of opportunities
for professional learning and growth.28 For example, well - developed, sustained professional learning communities, or PLCs, can serve as powerful levers to improve teaching practice and increase student achievement.29 When implemented poorly, however, PLCs result in little to no positive change in school performance
for professional learning and growth.28

Extending from that work, we have developed other multimedia case

teachers and
teacher educators through the development and use of the case, and (c) ways this case fits into the larger picture of what we have learned about the use of multimedia case

Many
studies have shown that mentoring programs help retain early - career
educators and prevents burnout
for both the young and veteran
teachers.
Examples include
studies of principal feedback to
teachers and district professional development
for educators, both developed
for the New York City Department of Education.
One of those
educators was Connie Beson - Steger, an advanced placement (AP) social
studies teacher who taught English overseas
for five years before returning to the United States where she has been instructing
for the last 13 years.
Teacher educators and veteran social
studies teachers should, therefore, not be surprised if young
teachers do not immediately take to Twitter or other social media
for PD, but there is likely still merit in introducing young
educators to professional social media use (e.g., Krutka, 2014).

Social

«In the local associations that chose recertification elections, we saw a tremendous support

Social

«In the local associations that chose recertification elections,

One
study found that high familiarity with the NETS (
for teachers and
for students) led not only to higher use of technology in the classroom in general, but also higher use of discipline - specific technology tools among
teacher educators (Friedman et al., 2009).
From a high - level perspective, the positive dispositions found
for the practicing science and technology
educators, principal investigators and evaluators, and technology infusion faculty in this
study can be viewed as a target level toward which one might hope the middle school students and the preservice
teachers might evolve.
We have begun a series of discussions with social
studies teacher educators and researchers, centering on their uses and aspirations
for digital video in their methods courses.
