Before his arrival,
the study of consciousness had been largely relegated to mystics and philosophers.
Even
the study of consciousness, long considered impossibly speculative, now attracts mainstream researchers.
Though traditional models of therapy described some aspects of a subjective system of «mind,» recent advancements in
studies of consciousness, mindfulness, and emotion have greatly expanded views of the complex and interactive nature of the mind.
Not exact matches
One
of the most influential works on that list is «Cosmic
Consciousness: A
Study in the Evolution
of the Human Mind,» originally published by a Canadian psychiatrist in 1901.
So many
studies point to the importance
of dialing our brain down to a different level
of consciousness to give it the capacity to adapt to unexpected stress.
Lack
of secondary
consciousness can not be eliminated without further
study.
But if you are looking for consilience, in which multiple lines
of independent evidence converge on the same target, then Schwartz's argument is a good one to have in your arsenal, for it fits nicely with biological arguments for intelligent design (cf. Michael Behe's Darwin's Black Box), recent philosophical work on mental causation (cf. Robert Koons» Realism Regained), cosmological fine - tuning (cf. John Barrow and Frank Tipler's The Anthropic Cosmological Principle), and
consciousness studies (cf. Dean Radin's The Conscious Universe).
Anyone familiar with current discussions
of neuroscience,
consciousness studies, and the mind - body problem will realize just how fiercely materialistic and non-dualist these fields are.
Near - death
studies are about the best we have and anecdotally I think that many people do report «conscious» experience whether that's due to anoxia or otherwise there is no substantial evidence suggesting the absence
of «
consciousness.»
The present volume is really a collection
of studies, and it might easily have grown to twice its size if other topics had been included: for example the miracle stories — I should have liked to examine Alan Richardson's new book on The Miracle - Stories of the Gospels (1942)-- or a fuller study of the so - called messianic consciousness of Jesus, the theory of interim ethics, the relation of eschatology and ethics in Jesus» teachings — see Professor Amos N. While I have seen no
studies done on this, from what I have seen, dying people are more focussed on the kinds
of things noted in the article (pain alleviation, cleanliness particularly in light
of the huge issue toilet - time becomes) than on whether an afterlife or mere end
of consciousness that awaits them.
Philip Joranson and Ken Butigan, the editors
of Cry

of such inclusive care as «creation
consciousness» (CE).

I feel a warm glow and a sense
of affirmation when I learn
of churches which are eliminating sexist language from their worship services and liturgy,
