Word documents into Google
Docs
When your book designer imports your
Word doc (most manuscripts are submitted in
Word) into InDesign, all those
style tags will import too, which is a huge help.
While you can publish a
Word doc in some of the bookstores nowadays, you are left with automatic conversion scripts, and all the design and
styling problems that come with them.
Letting the wizard know you need an NCX link isn't hard: just format the name of each section in your
Word DOC as
style «Heading 1».
The best way to take advantage of all the Smashwords can offer is to upload your
Word doc formatted to the
Style Guide through their «Meatginder», and then replace their EPUB generated file with your higher quality and «validated» epub design.
