I
subbed in
grapeseed oil for the coconut oil, and used ground chia seed instead of the flax, because they are what I had on hand, and it is wonderful.
I
subbed honey for agave and olive oil (for baking) for
grapeseed.
I don't do agave but honey works wonderfully as a
sub, and I also use coconut oil instead of
grapeseed oil.
Just in case anyone else has to adjust based on available ingredients, here's what worked for me: Used 3 dates and 1/2 cup honey instead of agave / yacon syrups and
subbed coconut oil for the
grapeseed.
I made these
subbing sunflower seed butter for the peanut and
grapeseed oil for the shortning (just «cuz the shortning is so darn expensive and the grapeseen oil was on sale at my local co-op), and they just turned out lovely.
I made these the other day — had a few substitutions as I used coconut oil instead of
grapeseed and also I
subbed another sweetener for Agave (a mix of splenda, Xylitol, and Erythitol) as I can't use Agave.
I
sub coconut oil for the
grapeseed (often using half applesauce and half oil) and either honey or date syrup (combine 1 c dates with 1 c water, leave overnight and blend) for the agave syrup.
Do you think I could
sub coconut oil for the
grapeseed oil?
Anyway, wanted to tell you that I've started
subbing out the
grapeseed oil for coconut oil in these and have long been using homemade coconut palm sugar syrup in place of agave in ALL of your recipes, including your peanut sauce and other similar ones.
We eat a mostly paleo diet, so I
subbed melted coconut oil and maple syrup for the
grapeseed oil and agave.
I did
sub melted butter for the
grapeseed oil and molasses for the yacon (didn't have them on hand).
In Elana's recipes, I also
sub coconut oil for
grapeseed or shortening and maple syrup for agave.
And I don't have
grapeseed oil, but did have macadamia nut oil, so
subbed this.
If you want to, you can absolutely
sub in avocado or
grapeseed oil, but pure olive oil (vs. extra virgin) should not be an issue.
