I soaked and
subbed in coconut milk rather than the water.
I just made these using blueberries instead of raspberries,
subbing in coconut milk and then coconut sugar in place of the cane.

The reason I'm using
coconut milk in the mousse is because the mascarpone is heavy enough, bit you can
sub with
coconut cream.
I made some mods that other users talked about, as
in subbing all the
coconut milk instead of using 1/2 heavy cream.

coconut or almond
milk as a
milk sub in all my recipes.

subbed about a cup of
coconut milk for the dollop of cream and used
coconut oil to sautee

subbed in cows
milk for plant
milk, and butter for
coconut oil since I was out of the latter.
But I am most excited about the
coconut milk sub in the filling.

milk and added chopped banana and shredded

I altered the recipe
in a few areas, most notably,
subbing in coconut oil for canola oil and almond
milk for soy
milk.
Opt for
coconut milk to enhance the rich,
coconut - y flavor of the shake, or
sub in almond
milk for a lower - fat option.
If you have really little peeps, do the dipping into the hot dairy free
milk sub yourself (I used
coconut milk — YUM) before letting the kids roll
in nuts.
Going DF wasn't so bad —
coconut or almond
milk subs in well and Daiya cheese has been a God send for us — but the starch substitution situation is much, much more challenging.
Re: adding
coconut milk - Having just experienced a huge debacle involving the use of
coconut milk as a
sub in with a recipe I'll just say that if you want to try this you want to use cream of
coconut, NOT
coconut milk!
I'm still hunting for a vegan
coconut milk powder (
in UK) but I'm sure I can work out something to
sub in there.
To all who use almond
milk,
coconut milk and water as
subs - please write which chocolate u use also because the ingrediants and different brands vary - and therefore have
in impact on the way it all turns out....
If you don't have any, and don't see this as a great excuse to visit the liquor store, feel free to
sub extra
coconut milk in the cake and just use whipping cream
in the frosting.
That lovely, thick dressing
in the photo above is thanks to tahini and Greek yogurt (vegans and dairy - avoiders,
sub coconut yogurt, or,
in a pinch, canned
coconut milk).
Though I opted for
coconut milk yogurt to keep this Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie dairy - free, you could easily
sub Greek yogurt
in for an added protein boost.
In other words if I don't like flavored coffee and I prefer it unsweetened... just plain canned full fat
coconut milk is a good
sub for creamer?
I
subbed in soy
milk and
coconut milk powder for the
milk and
milk powder and both worked just fine.
You can also
sub almond
milk or water for the
coconut milk if you need to decrease the fat
in this recipe.
* Note: To
sub almond
milk or other non-dairy
milk, use 1 1/2 to 2 cups almond
milk in place of the
coconut milk and 1 1/1 cups water.
