In her assessment of four California public schools that use Waldorf methods, Oberman found that students tested below peers in language arts and math in the second grade, but they matched or tested above their peers in the same
subjects by eighth grade.

The data show that when measured as their own «state», Arizona charter students outpaced the gains realized
by their state level peers in all four major tested
subjects: fourth
grade reading and math, as well as
eighth grade reading and math.
Florida classrooms are also dealing with a constitutional amendment approved
by voters in 2002 limiting class sizes in certain
subjects, such as math, science and language arts (18 students in prekindergarten through third
grade; 22 students fourth through
eighth grades; and 25 students in high school).
In fact, the largest positive change for a state in any tested
subject area and
grade level was a +10 change in scale score
by California in
eighth grade reading.
After the charter takeover of NOLA public schools post Katrina, the state began issuing letter
grades for all schools in 2011, and 79 percent of charter schools in the New Orleans district received a «D» or «F.» In 2014, RSD - New Orleans schools are still performing below the vast majority of the state's other districts at the fourth and
eighth grades in
subjects tested
by the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program, including English language arts, math and science.
