Carbon pricing is not just a theory: 40 countries and over 20
subnational jurisdictions, representing almost 25 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, already have carbon pricing in place.
Given that many of these are federal programs run under the State Department or Fish and Wildlife Service, it is unclear whether
subnational jurisdictions like states and cities will step in to fill the gap.
Thirty - nine countries and 23
subnational jurisdictions have some form of carbon pricing in place, covering 12 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions.
For methane in particular, sharing data as well as approaches for cost - effective regulation would aid
subnational jurisdictions.
